About Us

students and faculty at annual retreat

‌The MD/PhD Program was established in 1983 as a distinct training opportunity under the aegis of the Dean's Office. Commencing with a small group of students, the program now matriculates 6-8 students each year and has grown to more than 60 students.

Our record of research and clinical training is underscored by the residency placements of our physician scientists, who have competed exceptionally well for prestigious residency programs across the country. Over the years virtually all of our graduates have pursued clinical postgraduate training. Many of our recent graduates have completed residency training and are now in prestigious fellowships in Gene Therapy at NIH, Pediatric Cardiology at Yale and Pediatric Neurology at Johns Hopkins, just to name a few.

Others who have completed their training have gone on to academic appointments at outstanding institutions. Our program has established a sustained record of training first-rate physician scientists who are well-prepared to capitalize on the opportunities - and meet the challenges - in the investigation of human diseases.
